Before you start marketing your website there are a few things that you must consider first. Only a madman will go out there and start spending money on pay per click advertising and writing articles to get back links and so on without having a clear and defined path to take.

For example you need to understand who your customers and readers are and where they go, and what they search for.

Here are five things for you to consider before you start marketing your website.

1. Who is Your Target Audience?

So you have written a fantastic blog about a passion or hobby of yours, it looks great and you are putting regular content on it. There’s just one small problem you’re getting hardly any traffic.

The reason may be because you haven’t identified who your targeting the blog to. You must pick a group of people and market it towards them, as a beginner I would not recommend that you target more than one group at a time.

2. Detailed Research Into Your Chosen Audiences Surfing Habits

If you are to market your website to a certain group of people then you must understand how they surf the internet.

This will help you target your campaign at the correct times and in the correct places. There is no point in having a pay per click campaign running in the morning if your readers do not surf the internet until the evening. This will also work with submitting articles with links to your website at the right times and also advertising in the right places.

3. Get Good Advice From Experts

If you are completely new to this then why not join one of the many popular forums that are abundant online? There are many people that are willing to share information with beginners and this is a fantastic way to learn and to make connections.

Don’t be scared to introduce yourself as a newbie they will not mind and may even direct you to older posts where the information has been discussed.

4. Analyse the Competition and Emulate Them If Necessary

What expert Internet marketers do is check out their competition to see what they are doing. If they are doing something that is successful then they have no shame in copying what they do.

It will be easy for you to see what successful bloggers are doing and it may induce some creative thinking on your part.

5. Join Some Article Submission Websites

There are an array of article submission sites where you can promote your business for free. Conduct a quick Google search and is you will instantly come up with a page full of them.

These are a great resource to see what and how other marketers are promoting their products. You can then market yours better and put in some links to your website at the end of the article.
