WordPress brings AI to millions of websites trough official plugins

Great news for bloggers and website owners who are using WordPress to run their websites. With WordPress 7.0, there will be official plugins to use the most popular AI models: ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude.
The plugins are already in the marketplace:
The 7.0 version, which will be released on April 9, will have the PHP AI Client SDK integrated in the core.
For previous versions, the AI Client SDK can be downloaded from github.
This massive update shifts how developers and users interact with AI on the platform. By integrating the PHP AI Client SDK directly into WordPress 7.0, the core software now offers a unified interface for all AI tasks. This shared infrastructure allows developers to integrate AI capabilities rapidly and flexibly, rather than having to build custom connections from scratch.
For everyday users, the setup is incredibly simple. You choose your preferred AI provider plugin—whether that is Google’s Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude, or OpenAI’s ChatGPT—and supply your own API key. Once activated, any AI-enabled plugin on your website can securely route its requests through that single, central provider. These official plugins support a wide array of capabilities out of the gate, including advanced text generation, web searches, function calling, and even image generation using models like OpenAI’s DALL-E or Google’s Imagen.
It is important to note that these powerful new integrations come with updated technical requirements. To run these official AI plugins, your website’s server must be using PHP 7.4 or higher. If you are currently running WordPress 6.9, you will need to install the PHP AI client SDK manually, but once you upgrade to the highly anticipated WordPress 7.0 release on April 9, the SDK will be built in by default.
Ultimately, this foundational shift is setting the stage for the next era of website management. With standardized AI capabilities natively supported inside the core, website owners can look forward to a future of seamless AI-assisted writing, automated SEO recommendations, and smarter publishing workflows—all securely managed from the familiar WordPress dashboard.
