There is a lot of controversy around the digitalpoint co-op network which promises visitors that they will get million of links indexed. For who doesn’t know the co-op network is a service provided by digitalpoint, the same one who provide one of the biggest webmaster related forums.

The co-op network is practically a link-farm very popular few years ago. You place a code that will show few links on your website, you get credits and your links is displayed on other websites. Some automated link-exchange.

What is great about the co-op advertising network is that some websites reported tens of millions of backlinks on yahoo siteexplorer, all links generated by the co-op network. That is impressive. The only issue is that yahoo site explorer index links and it keeps them in the reports for a while, even if the link is removed.

There are some website success stories on the internet about the digital point co-op advertising network with people reporting how easy is to achieve top spot on google for any term. Books were sold to explain the secret to own google with this technique.

What google say about this ? Well, google disagree with this technique, and probably the algorithm was upgraded a long time ago to prevent websites using the co-op network to rank very high. More, experts in seo forums recommend to not place a link from your website to digitalpoint because it can hurt your rankings due to the coop network ( Links to digitalpoint forums are ok ).

But, it seems there are SEO experts that recommend the use of such Co-op networks. For example Aaron Wall wrote in his SEO Book about it:

Free: Cooperative Ad Network … this essentially amounts to a huge link farm, but it is blended in with many sites that are well integrated into the web. Eventually it may somehow be filtered out or lessened in power, but currently it is rather powerful for MSN and Yahoo! (and to a lesser extent Google)

Seobook is one of the best books for SEO. Unfortunately, it is not updated anymore because Aaron noticed that things are changing so fast that it is not worthwile to update the book. Instead, he created a private and moderated high quality SEO community.

I personally recommend to stay away from this kind of link farms because they don’t add too much value to your website because they are automated and frequent irrelevant to the content of target website.
