The latest version of WordPress was recently released. Despite there are not so great new features, like we were used in previous versions of wordpress, the improvements were great in terms of speed and design.

The admin interface is now faster and lighter, which will improve the writing and management experience. Another great fact is the new default theme, “twenty twelve” which is now HTML5 validated. Another great thing is the possibility to write a post in full screen mode. If you ever felt that your writing box is too small, now you can have it on the whole screen.

The wordpress development team has great plans. To get advantage of new features that they can use, they are dropping support for older versions of php, mysql and IE6. Altough this may not be seen good by conservators, they can still use the older version of wordpress if they want to stay with older versions of PHP, or to provide support for older browsers. It was announced a year ago that the support for PHP4 and MySQL4 will be dropped, and there is no surprise that this happened. A bigger impact will have the drop of support for IE6, while developers can upgrade the servers, they have no control on what browsers their users are using, and some may be concerned that they will lose visitors.  According to ie6countdown ( a project started by microsoft ), only 2% of web users are using Internet Explorer 6 in United states. The world-wide percent is 10%, but this is mainly because in China the percent is 33% and 10% in India.

Companies that are trying to maximize their website’s potential can avail of the services of a professional or purchase some software that will help search engine optimization for their website. Websites that are in the planning phase or their conceptualization and development period have to consider search engine optimization or SEO in these early stages. Nowadays everyone seems to know Search Engine Optimisation. You hear from friends that are just getting in online business and they are sure that they can get a lot of traffic trough search engine optimisation. It is like something they own and there is no doubt. Meanwhile, they never heard anything of link building.

For better or worse, as a society we’ve become less patient as we become more technologically advanced. There was a time when the only way to get online was with a 14.4 kbs modem. You would hear that funny, staticky beepy noise and wait as your dial-up connection was established with an ISP. Then, you would open up Netscape and proceed to wait some more. People love icons, they can figure out what a field represent or what a button does much easier. Either you develop a design for a website, or for a simple desktop application you have to use images to make it to look better and to improve significantly the user interface.

For example, if you want to make a file available to download on a website you place a file icon near so people are aware that clicking on that link will start the file download. Memory is not only important for remembering things like to buy milk in your way home when you go back from work, or to call your accountant to tell him that something changed. If you learn a lot of things and your memory don’t help, you waste a lot of time.

Although you can write things down to save memory is a good habit, you can’t write everything down. Nowadays, the information is freely available online so writing it down won’t save you much time because it is going nowhere and you can read it again and again.
